Vegetation Types — Tidal Wetland
Here we find the plants that enjoy periodic inundation by brackish water.
Some like more, some less, salt in their diet, which determines where they are located in the intertidal zone.
These are the mangroves and associated plants of the tidal creeks and streams of the Noosa River system. Roots have adapted to breathe and support the plants in this challenging environment.
Developers removed huge quantities of mangroves until Government Departments stepped in. Heavy fines are now imposed on anyone disturbing these rich ecosystems and important fish-breeding habitats where fish and crustaceans begin their life in the muddy root zone.
