Identification Notes

Annual, rarely biennial, tufted grass, usually less than 1 metre tall. Nodes are brown, smooth or hairy. Leaf blades and sheaths smooth or hairy. Blades linear, flat, 5-20 cm x 2.5-14mm; midrib prominent beneath. Inflorescence is an open panicle 5-20 cm long with spreading primary branches. Spiklets are in pairs and clustered toward the branch tips.
