Dry Heath
Away from the harsh demands of the beachfront, plants of the dry heathland grow on the sunny well-drained sands of the older dunes. In exposed areas the vegetation reaches only a metre. In more protected places small trees may be seen.
Huge areas have been cleared for residential development, but where the natural vegetation has been retained or restored, teatrees, gnarled banksias and grasstrees reflect the original landscape and encourage the birds and animals that thrive there
