Montaine
From the Latin “mons”, a mountain.
These are the plant communities that colonise the tips of old volcanic plugs. Soils are shallow, low in nutrients, often overlying bedrock, and the plants grow in rocky crevices. They are exposed to windy conditions and high light levels.
