Identification Notes

Sparsely tufted, perennial grass with erect, unbranched, hairless stems. Nodes are hairless. Leaf sheaths and blades are hairless or covered with short hairs. Blades are up to 20 cm long x 3-5 mm wide. Inflorescence is a dense spike-like panicle, 8-20 cm long. The spikelets each have a long, conspicuous curves awn 2-5 cm long.
