Wet Eucalypt
The light level is lower in these forests. Also referred to as ecotonal or transitional they are found at the edge of the rainforest. Eucalypts are still present in the tall open canopy of this high rainfall area, often on sands, with a well-developed understorey of shrubby rainforest and heath species. Palms, ferns and sedges occur, but grasses are uncommon and fire infrequent.
Timber-getters found these tall trees, growing straight up to the light, an attractive target.
The land was also cleared for cattle and agriculture.
